Movers Kensington Health and Safety Policy
Movers Kensington is committed to maintaining the highest standards of health, safety and welfare for our employees, contractors, customers and members of the public. This policy outlines our approach to managing risks associated with removals, packing, loading, transport and delivery services across our operating area.
Policy Statement and Objectives
Our objective is to prevent injury, ill health, property damage and environmental harm arising from our work activities. Health and safety considerations are integral to how we plan, manage and deliver every move, from small domestic removals to larger commercial relocations.
We will provide safe systems of work, appropriate equipment, adequate information, instruction, training and supervision. We will comply with all relevant health and safety legislation and work to industry best practice for the removals sector.
Management Responsibilities
Senior management holds overall responsibility for implementing and maintaining this Health and Safety Policy. This includes allocating suitable resources, ensuring effective communication and reviewing performance regularly. Management will:
Ensure that risk assessments are carried out and reviewed periodically; establish safe working procedures for all removal activities; provide appropriate safety equipment and personal protective equipment; ensure vehicles and lifting equipment are maintained in safe working order; promote a positive health and safety culture within the business.
Employee Responsibilities
Every employee has a duty to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions or omissions. All staff must:
Follow the company’s safe working procedures and instructions; use equipment and protective gear as trained; report accidents, incidents, near misses and hazards immediately; co operate with management on all health and safety matters; refrain from any behaviour that could compromise safety, such as horseplay or working under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Risk Assessment and Safe Systems of Work
Prior to carrying out any removal, a risk assessment will be undertaken to identify potential hazards and appropriate control measures. Factors considered include building access, stairs and lifts, parking and loading areas, manual handling tasks, use of lifting equipment and traffic management during loading.
Safe systems of work are developed from these assessments, including clear instructions on lifting techniques, team communication, use of dollies and trolleys, securing loads in vehicles and safe routes into and through premises. These systems are communicated to all staff involved in the move and reviewed whenever circumstances change.
Manual Handling and Use of Equipment
Manual handling is a key risk in the removals industry. Movers Kensington is committed to reducing this risk by:
Providing training on safe lifting and carrying techniques; planning work to avoid unnecessary lifting wherever possible; using mechanical aids such as sack trucks, trolleys and ramps; ensuring items are dismantled where practicable to reduce weight and awkwardness; requiring team lifting for heavy or bulky items.
All equipment used in our operations is selected for suitability, inspected regularly and maintained in good condition. Defective equipment must be reported immediately and removed from service until repaired or replaced.
Vehicle and Road Safety
Our vehicles are integral to our removals service and are operated with a strong focus on safety. We will ensure that:
All vehicles undergo regular servicing, safety checks and inspections; loads are distributed and secured correctly to prevent shifting during transit; drivers hold the appropriate licence, training and experience; journey planning takes account of safe routes, loading restrictions and local conditions; drivers follow road traffic laws and drive in a considerate, defensive manner.
Customer Premises and Public Safety
When operating at customer properties or commercial sites, Movers Kensington is committed to protecting customers, visitors and the public. Our teams will:
Assess access routes, doorways, staircases and communal areas for hazards; use protective coverings where appropriate to minimise slips and trips; keep routes clear of obstructions and packaging materials; signpost or manage any temporary hazards arising from the move; maintain professional conduct to avoid disturbance or risk to neighbours and passers by.
Training, Information and Supervision
All staff receive induction training that covers health and safety responsibilities, safe lifting, equipment use, vehicle safety and emergency procedures. Additional task specific training is provided where required, such as the use of specialist moving equipment or handling of high value and fragile items.
Supervisors are responsible for monitoring compliance with safe systems of work, providing guidance on site and intervening where unsafe practices are observed. Refresher training is provided as necessary, and when new equipment or procedures are introduced.
Accident Reporting and Emergency Procedures
All accidents, incidents, near misses and cases of work related ill health must be reported without delay. Reports are recorded, investigated and used to identify root causes and preventative measures. Where required by law, incidents will be reported to the relevant enforcing authorities.
Emergency procedures, including fire safety, first aid and evacuation, are communicated to staff and followed at all times. Employees must familiarise themselves with the emergency arrangements at each site or property they attend.
Consultation and Continuous Improvement
Movers Kensington recognises that effective health and safety management relies on the involvement of the whole team. We encourage staff to raise concerns, suggest improvements and share ideas to reduce risk. Feedback from employees and customers is reviewed and used to improve our policies and procedures.
This Health and Safety Policy is reviewed regularly and updated when necessary to reflect changes in legislation, industry standards, our services or the nature of risks encountered during removal operations. Updated versions are communicated to all employees and made available to customers on request.
By working together and following this policy, Movers Kensington aims to deliver every move safely, responsibly and with full regard for the wellbeing of our staff, customers and the communities we serve.
